Nicholas Andry is the first person to find the word “orthopaedic”, as he have use the word orthopaedic in one of his book which was published in 1741.His groundbreaking work, titled "Orthopaedia: or the Art of Correcting and Preventing Deformities in Children," not only introduced the term "orthopaedic" but also laid the foundation for the modern field of orthopedics by focusing on the prevention and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders.

The Orthopaedic association of Bhutan collaborates with Health Volnteers Overseas, an organization that provides volunteer orthopaedic surgeons and educators to support the orthopaedic residency program at Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital in Thimphu. The association is affiliated with the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association, a regional organization that represents over 65,000 orthopaedic surgeons from more than 40 countries
